CADDO PARISH SCHOOL BOARD | DISTRICT 5
BLOOMING FOR THE FUTURE
Let’s Stand TOGETHER to build a BLOOMING FUTURE for Caddo Parish District 5
Meet Karla

Daughter of Leonard and Mattie Brewer McCulloch who worked in Caddo Parish for over 36 years with perfect attendance.
Born in Barksdale, USA – lifelong Shreveport resident. Proven public servant and advocate for the school and community. Businesswoman/Owner of Flynn’s Church Supply. Served the community in various event including food drives, clothing drives, disaster relief efforts, sock/glove drive for Caddo students, Career Day at Caddo Schools, Mentoring Programs, and Feeding the Hungry.
Our district is at a critical moment, and decisions made today will shape the future of our children for years to come. Families are asking for stronger leadership, clearer communication, and a School Board that is truly accountable to the community it serves.
I see both the urgency of the challenges and opportunity we have to make meaningful change. District 5 needs a representative who is ready to step in, listen, and lead with purpose. Our students cannot wait, and I am prepared to bring steady, committed, community-focused leadership to the School Board at this pivotal time.
I believe our children deserve strong accountable leadership
that puts students, families, and educators first. From academic gaps and aging facilities, to staffing shortages and unequal access to resources, I know that District 5 needs a representative who will listen, collaborate, and advocate with urgency and integrity.
Platform
Safety is the foundation for everything else we expect our students and educators to achieve. When children feel safe, they are better able to learn, focus, and build healthy relationships. When teachers are secure and supported, they can teach effectively without constant disruption or fear. Safe schools strengthen trust between families and the district, assuring parents their children are protected and cared for every day.
One of the strongest predictors of a student’s future opportunities is academic achievement. When students master essential skills in reading, math, science, and critical thinking, they are better prepared for college, careers, and responsibilities of adulthood. Strong academic performance builds confidence, expands choices, and helps students break cycles of poverty by opening doors to higher paying jobs and long-term stability. For communities like Caddo, academic achievement ties into economic growth, public safety, and overall quality of life. When our children succeed, our community benefits.
Pay increases for employees are important because they directly strengthen the stability, quality, and effectiveness of the school system. When employees are paid competitively, districts are better able to recruit and retain talented teachers, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, and support staff, the people who make schools run every day. Fair compensation boosts morale and helps employees feel valued for their critical work. Pay increases help ensure that experienced staff stay in the classroom, where in a district like Caddo, schools face high needs. Investment in employees is an investment in students.
Your support helps us strengthen District 5 schools and ensure every child has access to a safe, high quality, education. If you believe in accountable leadership that puts students and families first, please consider contributing to our campaign today.
